Zootopia 2
Review: Over the weekend, I was able to make it enter the theater to catch one of the biggest films I missed in 2025. And this was probably my favorite theater experience ever, because it was my son’s first trip to the movie theater. Once again focused on the duo of Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) & Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), this time they have to uncover a mystery rooted in Zootopia’s founding and how it affected the missing reptile community Zootopia used to have. I was afraid that this film would be rehash of the first film, just put out as a cash grab by Disney. But that was not the case. It definitely retained some elements from the first film, but in a purposeful way narratively speaking. The film features returning voice cast members like Idris Elba, Shakira, Nate Torrence, Bonnie Hunt, Don Lake, Tiny Lister, Maurice LaMarche, Alan Tudyk, and Jenny Slate. And it also featured new cast members Ke Huy Quan, Fortune Feimster, Andy Samberg, David Strathairn, Patrick Warburton, Quinta Brunson, Danny Trejo, Jean Reno, Brenda Song, Macaulay Culkin, and John Leguizamo. I was really impressed by this film for several reasons. One, it was genuinely funny, for both kids and adults. Secondly, the designs are really incredible. There were several new character designs that looked really good, and some new regions of Zootopia we got to explore that were really creative. Lastly, these movies are so intentional with their choices. There are so many references, odes, and nods worked in that show how much care was taken when making this movie.
High: The sequel to one of Disney’s biggest modern hits, this film has become Disney Animation’s highest grossing film, currently sitting at $1.655 billion. As of writing, that makes it the second highest grossing film of 2025, third highest grossing animated movie ever, and twelfth highest grossing of all-time. Why is that the high? Because we need movie that make a lot of money at the movie theater to keep movie theaters going!
Low: I don’t know what my low is. I guess the movie was pretty predictable, even from the first trailers. But it’s a movie geared to kids (that can still be enjoyed by adults) so I’d imagine the plot twist is fairly unexpected if you’re part of the younger audience.
