People We Meet on Vacation

Review: Wow, hands down the best new movie I’ve seen in 2026. (Only new movie I’ve seen in 2026) Jokes aside this was a fun watch. It was several tiers above the new rom coms that drop on streaming services nowadays. Based on Emily Henry’s hit book, the film stars Emily Bader & Tom Blyth as Poppy & Alex, two best friends who are total opposites. The film, like the book (which I must say I haven’t read) uses a nonlinear structure to tell the story of the two friends and the many platonic vacations they take together. The film features an ensemble who all make brief appearances, including Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, Lukas Gage, Miles Heizer, Molly Shannon, & Alan Ruck. Plus it features a banger soundtrack that had my head bopping throughout. Overall it’s a really solid movie to watch during a time of year where not much is happening with new releases.

High: A lot of the dialogue felt so relatable and real. Like the writers of this movie are actual humans who have talked to other humans. That, on top of the great line reads from Bader & Blyth resulted in a grounded rom com that didn’t feel too outlandish or cheesy. Props everyone.

Low: A movie based on extremely popular novel? In the movie deadness of January? That’s an extremely accessible genre? Why the heck didn’t this movie release in theaters??? The answer is of course because it dropped on Netflix instead. Booooooooooooo.
