You, Me & Tuscany
Review: A 2026 rom com that recently dropped in theaters, this film stars Halle Bailey as a directionless woman who ends up on a trip to Tuscany, staying in the vacant villa of a man she barely knows. While overall reviews are mixed, I feel like most people I interact with in the movie community were positive on this one. I don’t share that sentiment. I thought it was pretty bad. The performances were pretty bad, especially from Bailey, who just felt very stale. A lot of the side characters were more entertaining than the leads, and the writing was okay at best. And I feel like everything that it does was done better by ‘While You Were Sleeping.’ It wasn’t so bad it was egregious, it just wasn’t good. It was slightly below okay. We’ll call it meh.
High: Well, I am glad this got a theater release and not a streaming drop. Because woohoo movie theaters! Also it’s very redeeming how handsome Regé-Jean Page is. That’s a fine man for sure.
Low: Even though this movie did release in theaters, it featured one of the marks of a streaming film. Through articles & videos, I’ve recently become acutely aware of streaming films needing to ‘catch the audience up’ due to a lack of attention to the movie. Because streamers know a viewer is likely on their phone, they slide several interactions in just to remind viewers what has happened so far. And this movie was full of those. Pretty much anytime Anna (Bailey) talked to her friend Claire (Aziza Scott) or the cab driver, Lorenzo (Marco Calvani) it was just spelling out the synopsis thus far. It was hard to watch on a big screen. But the person in front of my wife & I was on her phone the whole movie, so I suppose it knew it’s audience.
