The Drama

Review: One of the newest big talking point of 2026, I made it in this past weekend to experience ‘The Drama.’ And despite the name, I’d say this movie is definitely a rom com, though the comedy is more dark comedy than traditional. Starring Zendaya & Robert Pattinson as a couple a week out from their wedding, they find out revelations about one another that shake up their relationship. Alana Haim & Mamoudou Athie play the couple’s best friends, who are also affected by these confessions. Overall, the film is uncomfortable in an anxiety inducing way, though it usually leads to a good laugh when the air deflates. This film is for sure made by it’s two lead performances, and I’d say this is probably the best performance I’ve personally seen from Zendaya. And it’s up there for Pattinson, he just has a little more competition with some other really great performances. The film did earn some hearty laughs from my wife & I and it’s one of the better films of 2026 (so far)! And props to the marketing team! The marketing was really compelling but didn’t spill anything that the movie was actually about.

High: Aside from the career best level performances from both Zendaya & Pattinson, the main high I want to hit is the editing. This was a brilliantly edited film. The film had the current happenings intercut with flashbacks, the thoughts of the characters, and other symbolic visuals all cut together very nicely.

Low: The film throws a lot of hot topics at the viewer, and while it doesn’t mishandle them, I wouldn’t say it fully addresses any of them either. But to be fair, I don’t think that was the intention of the movie. It wasn’t meant to address and find a solution for the conversation, just introduce the conversation itself. I don’t feel that the spoiler ban for this movie is up yet, but if you’ve seen it, you know. It’s a little difficult to talk about the movie without bringing this up, so I’ll keep it at that.
