The Baltimorons

Review: Okay so I feel a little dumb. I was trying to space out some of my Christmas watches and decided to check out one of the films on my 2025 watchlist and picked this one. I saw one trailer for it and added it to my watchlist, so I had forgotten pretty much everything about it. I realized pretty quickly it was actually a Christmas movie too. I wasn’t mad. Just thought it was kind of funny. Anyways, this film follows a man (Michael Strassner) who has a dental emergency on Christmas Eve and ends up spending the day exploring Baltimore with his dentist (Liz Larsen) and the two discover an unexpected romance. I really like that the movie doesn’t really dilly dally it just gets straight into the meat of the story. And it was just one of those movies that as soon as I started watching I knew it was going to rock. I loved the holiday soundtrack and score and appreciate it using Christmas as a premise and capitalizing on the loneliness some people feel during the holidays. Alongside loneliness it also touches on suicide, alcoholism, generational trauma, divorce, and did it all tastefully, at least in my opinion. As of my writing this, the film is only available to rent on digital, but it may have dropped on streaming by the time this article is released. I would definitely recommend that you check it out!

High: Honest to God this is one of the funniest movies I’ve watched this year. Just about everything Michael Strassner said made me chuckle, giggle, or bust up. He & Liz Larsen had an absolutely incredible rapport so shouts out to both of them! Every time he guessed a name or lied before quickly revealing the truth I started cackling. Also when he told Didi ‘you did something and I noticed it’ that was a kicker as well as him continuing to introduce himself at the crashing of the party.

Low: The only thing I really didn’t like is that Cliff was engaged while falling in love. Cheating is never good and should never be condoned in real life. Don’t mind it as much in movies since it’s just fiction, but it does still make me feel a little icky to be rooting for a couple when one of them is in a committed relationship. BOOOOOOO.
