Missing Link
Review: I’ve really gotten into a groove (or rut) of only reviewing new movies on here. My original intention was to just review most movies I’ve watched on here and while that goal is a tad ambitious (I’ve watched over 400 movies this year) I do want to throw some reviews of older films in. This 2019 film was one that my son randomly grabbed for me at the library (check out the series on my TikTok where I blind watch DVDs my son pulls for me by clicking on the TikTok logo at the bottom of this page) and I decided would be one worth discussing here. With a voice cast featuring Zach Galifianakis, Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Fry, Emma Thompson, & my favorite performance in this one, Timothy Olyphant we follow an adventurer who tries to discovers a sasquatch and tries to unite him with his Yeti brethren. I enjoyed the film more than I thought I would, though I don’t think it’s one I’ll ever revisit or probably even really think about again.
High: Claymatian is not my jam. Sorry friends. But I really liked the execution of it in this film. They did a great job with the physical comedy & expressions of the characters. This feels weird to say about an animated movie but the lighting was also really good. The shadows, shading, & all around lighting of the film was really stunning. Shoutout to the animators here because they did a brilliant job. This film rightfully earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature and won the Golden Globe in the same category, so I’m glad they got their credit.
Low: I chuckled here and there but overall the comedy wasn’t hitting for me. Especially most of the jokes from Mr. Link/Susan. Zach Galifianakis just wasn’t doing anything for me. Granted, I think I may be a tad older than the target audience so take that with a grain of salt. Though Emma Thompson’s delivery of ‘The people we don’t want here are leaving! Stop them!’ & the climactic slap fight both got chuckles from me.
