My 2025 Movie Theater Wrapped

Any area in which I really grew from last year was in my trips to the movie theater. In 2024, I made it to theater 20 times, which was a decent number itself. However in 2025 I nearly tripled that by seeing 59 films in the theater. I was rolling up to that movie theater by myself like I was Nicole Kidman in an AMC commercial. There was a handful of times I went with others, but the majority was by my lonesome, which I don’t mind at all. I’ve had a list running on Letterboxd with my 2025 theater watched which you can READ HERE.

52 of the films I saw in theater were new releases, 4 of them were 2024 films I either watched or rewatched, and the remaining 3 were rereleases. The rereleases I saw in theaters were the 50th Anniversary rerelease of ‘Jaws,’ the 35th Anniversary rerelease of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,’ and the 4K rerelease of ‘Shin Godzilla.’

My monthly breakdown was as follows: 5 films in theaters in January, 4 in February, 5 in March, 6 in April, 6 in May, 6 in June, 6 in July, 7 in August, 2 in September, 2 in October, 5 in November, and 4 in December. I don’t have a goal in mind, but I would like to either meet or surpass my movie trips from this year!

There were a handful of movies that I went to see in theaters multiple times, usually as a result of going once by myself and then with groups of people. I watched Weapons, Sinners, and How to Train Your Dragon twice each, though I didn’t finish HTTYD the first time because there was a tornado warning on my first trip. I saw F1 and Thunderbolts* three times a piece.

Now not to flex too hard on everyone, but I am an AMC Stubs A-List membership, and I wanted to share some of the statistics of that membership. I only cheated on AMC once, when I saw ‘Drop’ at my local Icon Cinema with my wife (we had a gift card and she likes their concessions better).

The total annual cost was $287.88 (should actually be less because they increased the price mid-year and my number is assuming the price increase was for the whole 12 month period), which was graciously paid for by my father-in-law who got me the membership for Christmas last year. And man did I get a bang for his buck.

The total amount I saved on concessions (I purchased concessions pretty infrequently, usually just if I was going with other people) was $62.09.

The total amount I saved on waived fees was $213.41.

And the total amount I saved on my tickets was $736.14, taking my grand total savings to $1,011.64.

So subtracting the price of the membership, my net savings was $723.76. Somehow this article is becoming an unpaid ad for AMC Stubs because those numbers are genuinely stunning to me and I can’t advocate for the value of this membership enough. Gym membership? Nah. AMC Stubs A-List? Abso-freaking-lutely.
