Top 10 Tallest Actors of All-Time
Well, I just watched the pilot episode of the new Game of Thrones spinoff, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ focused on Dunk, soon to be known as Ser Duncan the Tall. And I’ll admit that Duncan is tall, though not quite as tall as I was thinking he’d be. The actor who plays him, Peter Claffey is a quite tall 6’5. In the books, the character is described as nearly 7’0 tall, making him one of the tallest characters in the story. He is outshadowed by Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane who is described as nearly 8’0 tall. That character was most notably played by Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, who stands at 6’9. Neither of those guys are tall enough to make the cut for the list of tallest actors of all-time, at least that I could find. Heck even actors Joonas Suatomo (played Chewbacca in recent ‘Star Wars’ projects) & Nathan Jones (Rictus Erectus in ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’) don’t make the cut here at 6’11, this is exclusively 7’0 and up! We will go in height order, ending with the tallest. Side note, I’m excluding NBA players that transitioned to acting, because that’s its own list. Last thing, if they did any acting, I’m counting them as an actor. They don’t have to be full-time career actors.
I’m actually going to start with 7 honorable mentions over 7 foot before we crack the top 10, because I would identify most of these guys as legitimate actors opposed to some of those included in the 10.
Conan Stevens (7’0) - I noted that The Mountain in ‘Game of Thrones’ was most notably played by Björnsson, but two other actors donned the giant armor first. The first of those was Conan Stevens who also played the titular characters in the 2005 Marvel film, ‘Man-Thing’ and he played orcs in two of ‘The Hobbit’ films. On TV, he played Goliath in the miniseries ‘The Bible.’
Carel Struycken (7’0) - Struycken is a Dutch actor who has appeared in many sci-fi and fantasy franchises, like many other on this list. His most well known role is that of The Giant in ‘Twin Peaks’ making appearances in 5 episodes, also appearing in 4 episodes of ‘Twin Peaks: The Return.’ He also appeared in 5 episodes of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ as Mr. Homn, ‘Men in Black,’ ‘Doctor Sleep,’ and played Lurch in the three ‘90s ‘Addams Family’ films.
Ian Whyte (7’1) - The middle actor to play Ser Gregor Clegane, Ian Whyte is another regular of popular franchises. He has played various Predators in the ‘Alien vs. Predator’ franchise, played a significant role in ‘Prometheus,’ acted in ‘The Northman’ and has appeared in 4 different ‘Star Wars’ projects. He also doubled for Frances de la Tour in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ and played various roles besides the Mountain in ‘Game of Thrones,’ mostly the various giants.
Richard Kiel (7’1.5) - One of the more recognizable actors on the list, Kiel’s first major role was in a highly regarded episode of ‘The Twilight Zone’ before he went onto play the Bond villains Jaws in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ and ‘Moonraker.’ Kiel had a wide range of other film & TV roles, including a memorable appearance in ‘Happy Gilmore.’ His final film role before his 2014 death was a voice role in Disney’s ‘Tangled.’
John Aasen (7’2) - Aasen was a silent film actor who lived from 1890-1938, so his height is quite a dispute. Some sources him at 7’0, while other reputable sources have him as tall as 7’5. He appeared in various shorts and silent feature films, mostly in uncredited roles.
Kevin Peter Hall (7’2) - Fun fact. Jean-Claude Van Damme was originally cast to play the Predator in the original film of the same name. Despite his martial arts skills and bulk, the filmmakers felt that Van Damme’s 5’10 stature didn’t look intimidating next to the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, and Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura. So they replaced him with the 7’2 Kevin Peter Hall, who went on to reprise the role in the sequel film, ‘Predator 2.’ Hall also appeared in TV series ‘227’ & ‘Misfits of Science,’ with his most well known non-Predator role being that of Harry in ‘Harry and the Hendersons.’
Olivier Richters (7’2) - And our final honorable mention is Dutch bodybuilder and actor, Olivier Richters. Richters played a small role in ‘Black Widow’ and has also appeared in ‘The King’s Man,’ ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,’ and the TV series, ‘Reacher.’ He is set to play Zangief in the 2026 film, ‘Street Fighter.’
Now onto the Top 10:
Peter Mayhew (7’3) - Peter Mayhew was a career actor, but he was really only known for a single role, unlike several others we’ve talked about so far who have a couple of characters to their name. But since that character is one of the most iconic of all-time, we’ll let it slide. Because after all, what would ‘Star Wars’ be without Chewbacca, who Mayhew played in 5 movies, 1 TV special, 1 TV series, several other pieces of media, and even on ‘The Muppet Show.’
André Rousimoff (7’4) - Better known by his ring name, André the Giant, Rousimoff was best known for his work in the WWE, where is one of the sports most iconic performers. I’ll admit, I don’t think he’s actually 7’4. WWE tends to exaggerate heights, but based on other evidence, I’d put André probably around 7’2. But I’m going to include him just in case. He had a handful of TV & film appearances, with his primary role coming as Fezzik in ‘The Princess Bride.’
Matthew McGrory (7’6) - An American actor, McGrory was recognized by Guinness World Records as the tallest actor at one point in his life, as well as the biggest foot and toe in the world. He played in Rob Zombie’s horror films ‘House of 1000 Corpses’ & ‘The Devil’s Rejects,’ as well as ‘Men in Black II’ and ‘Big Fish.’
Christopher Greener (7’6.25) - A British actor who was the 4th-tallest Brit of all-time at his death, Greener played international basketball for the UK national team. He played small roles in a handful of films including ‘The Rainbow Thief,’ ‘Sky Bandits,’ and most notably, ‘The Elephant Man.’
Robert Bobroczkyi (7’7) - A Romanian former basketball played who played at the collegiate level for Rochester Christian, Bobroczkyi made his acting debut in the 2024 film ‘Alien: Romulus.’ Officially credited as The Offspring, his character is a mutant human-xenomorph hybrid.
Jorge González (7’7) - Believed to be the tallest Argentinian to have ever lived, González competed as a professional wrestler in both WCW & WWE under the ringnames El Gigante & Giant González. He was listed at 8’0 tall during his wrestling career, but was legitimately measured at 7’7. He acted on the TV series ‘Swamp Thing,’ ‘Thunder in Paradise,’ ‘Baywatch,’ and the TV film, ‘Hercules in the Underworld.’
Lock Martin (7’7) - Another older performer, Martin’s height is also disputed due to inconsistent reports. Martin had several roles in which he played giants, yetis, and aliens, with his most prominent coming as the robot Gort in ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still.’
Max Palmer (7’7) - Max Palmer lived many lives as a basketball player, professional wrestler, & evangelist preacher, but wedged in the middle of those careers he had a few acting roles, most notably in the Jungle Jim film, ‘Killer Ape’ in which he plays the titular ape.
Neil Fingleton (7’7.5) - The tallest Brit of all-time, Fingleton lived from 1980-2017 and played basketball at the collegiate and oversees professional level. He appeared in 6 projects in his acting career, all fairly prominent, though his roles were smaller. He acted in ‘X-Men: First Class,’ ‘47 Ronin,’ ‘Jupiter Ascending,’ ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ and ‘Doctor Who,’ with his most notable role coming from ‘Game of Thrones’ where he played Mag the Mighty.
Sun Mingming (7’9) - At one point, Sun Mingming was the tallest professional basketball player in the world, when he played professionally in his native China. Sun has appeared in a couple of Chinese TV series and movies, with his one American credit coming in ‘Rush Hour 3.’
