Top 10 Romance Movies You Probably Haven’t Seen

I’m not gonna lie, I was really having a hard time coming up with a second list for Valentine’s Day. I feel like everything that I though of had been done so many times that my article would’ve just been a rehash of a list someone else had previously written. Then I finally had a thought of a list that I got excited about, which brings us here to the Top 10 Romance Movies You Probably Haven’t Seen! You very well may have seen some or all of these. If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts on them. If you’re like super into movies like me, you’ve probably seen all of these (I limit lists like this to movies I’ve seen), so my bar for this is usually ‘Has my wife watched this?’ or ‘Has my mom watched this?’ or ‘Has my brother watched this?’ as they are more casual movie viewers. Maybe I just described you and these are all new to you and can provide you a good solo or date night watch this love month. Either way, I hope you enjoy!

All of You (2024) - This 2024 film debuted at TIFF before getting an unceremonious streaming release on Apple TV in 2025. It’s not going to be an all-time classic by any means, but it has an interesting concept and a compelling narrative. The plot is set in a world where you can take a test to scientifically identify your soulmate. It has a very ‘Black Mirror’ plot but is significantly more grounded. The film’s leads are Brett Goldstein, who also co-wrote the film, and Imogen Poots as two best friends who have a very will they-won’t they relationship due to their differing belief in the test. It can be streamed on Apple TV.

Black Bag (2025) - One of the better films from the first part of last year, this movie flew fairly under the radar, but is likely one of the more well known on this list. The film isn’t described as a romance, but as a spy thriller, centered on a married couple, played by Cate Blanchett & Michael Fassbender, who are forced to keep secrets from one another due to their spy statuses. The film has some action but doesn’t lean to heavily into that realm of the spy world, relying more on suspense, misdirection, and intrigue. If you were to ask me what the most romantic film from 2025 was, this would be my answer. It’s very slow and methodical and every interaction between the leads feels so intentional, even if their intentions are unclear. The cast is filled out by Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, and Pierce Brosnan and got a WGA nomination for Best Original Screenplay. It can be steamed on Prime.

The Gorge (2025) - A film that release last Valentine’s Day, it was another early hit in 2025, before slipping into forgotten mediocrity within a month of its release. The film is admittedly flawed, with the back half falling off significantly due to a lack of direction genre-wise. But the first half? One of the better romance movies of ‘25. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy & Miles Teller as two snipers assigned to opposite sides of a mysterious gorge with no communication between them or with anyone else. Temper your expectations before watching it, but it’s still worth watching. Stream it on Apple TV.

The Lovebirds (2020) - This 2020 film stars Kumail Nanjiani & Issa Rae as a couple at a rocky point in their relationship who have to go on the run after witnessing a murder. They get wrapped up in a whole new world of crime, secrets, & blackmail as hilarity ensues. The film features two hilarious performances from Rae & Nanjiani who are able stand both on their own comedically as well as playing off each other when needed. The film can be streamed on Netflix.

Malcolm & Marie (2021) - Fun fact. This 2021 film was the first movie to be entirely written, financed, and produced during COVID. My wife & I watched it last year and I quite liked it. She did not. Her dislike was twofold. Firstly, even though the film is modern, it’s in black & white. And second, the couple is super toxic. My wife doesn’t usually like movies where the main couple is super toxic because she feels as though it’s glorifying toxic relationships. I personally don’t think this film glorifies the relationship, making it clear that both characters are incredibly flawed. They are to be observed, not idolized. It stars John David Washington as a director and Zendaya as his girlfriend as the two get into several heated discussions following the debut of his new hit film. It’s literally just the two of them talking, so that may be a turn off, but again, I found it intriguing. If it sounds intriguing to you, you can stream it on Netflix.

A Nice Indian Boy (2024) - Another film that got a 2024 festival release before receiving a wide release in 2025. It follows Karan Soni as an Indian-American doctor who brings his new fiancé, played by Jonathan Groff, to meet his traditional Indian family. The film was directed by Soni’s real life husband, Roshan Sethi, and is a sweet take on an unconventional relationship dynamic. Stream it on Hulu.

Palm Springs (2020) - A sci-fi rom com, this film is honestly a better version of ‘Groundhog Day.’ It stars Cristin Miloti & Andy Samberg as two people who meet at a wedding and find themselves in an infinite time loop, waking up on the same day over and over again. It is actually one of the more popular direct to streaming films to come from the COVID era, so it may be one of ones of the list more people have seen. If you haven’t I’d recommend that you do because it’s extremely creative with it’s time loop premise and is a pretty fun watch. Stream it on Hulu.

Return to Me (2000) - Okay, I know thus far I’ve just inundated you with recent releases, so these next three will get progressively older. And if you don’t think 2000 is a throwback, I’ll remind you that we’re over a quarter of a century away from Y2K. The film follows David Duchovny, a man navigating a recent loss who falls for a waitress, played by Minnie Driver. The two go through a roller coaster of revelations as they navigate their feelings for one another. The film features supporting performances from Robert Loggia, David Alan Grier, James Belushi, Carroll O’Connor, in his final film role, and Bonnie Hunt, who also directed. It can be streamed free on Tubi, Pluto TV, or Plex.

Sabrina (1995) - Throwing it back a few more years we go to ‘Sabrina’ a remake of the 1954 film starring Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, & William Holden. This film stars Julia Ormond in the titular role of Sabrina, a woman torn between two brothers, played by Harrison Ford & Greg Kinnear. The film received Oscar nominations for its music & earned Golden Globe nominations for Best Musical or Comedy and Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for Ford. You can stream it on Paramount+.

Woman of the Year (1942) - And with our final film we will throw it back even further, to 1942. From legendary director George Stevens, this film was the first of many team ups between Katharine Hepburn & Spencer Tracy earning Oscar nominations for Hepburn and its writing. The characters serve as foils to one another with Hepburn playing a correspondent on international affairs and Tracy playing a modest sports writer. They quickly fall for one another and have to learn how to best deal with their differences, heightened when Hepburn’s character is awarded the titular ‘Woman of the Year’ award. It can be rented on digital, or, if you’re in the OKC area like me, it can be rented from the Metropolitan Library System (that’s what I did).

Thanks for reading, Happy Valentine’s Day, & as always… Happy Watching!
