Office Romance
Review: Man, I love rom coms. Especially good ones. This one landed both the rom and the com so I’ll call it a major win. I’ve learned that I’m a huge fan of Brett Goldstein and his writing, because I enjoy everything he does. This rom com stars Goldstein as a lawyer at an airline that finds himself in close proximity with the company’s CEO, played by Jennifer Lopez. Overall I enjoyed the classic rom com tropes with an interesting dynamic and several jokes that made me actually laugh out loud. If you’re a fan of the genre, I’d strongly recommend checking this one out. It was outlandish in the right places, like with Goldstein’s character’s sister, and was also predictable in the right places. There were some good bits throughout the film and I thought the scenes they played during the credits were a nice touch. Also I really appreciated the HR representation in the film.
High: Goldstein & Lopez had some killer chemistry. They had the flirting down. They were giving each other these fleeting looks and sharing small jokes and it just really worked for me. Was it cliche at times? Definitely. Is that a bad thing? I don’t think so.
Low: There was one fairly, um, graphic scene, in the latter half of the film that felt a tad out of place. It just felt like it kind of came out of nowhere and while the premise of the scene isn’t a big deal, it just hits out of nowhere.
