Review: The newest addition into the ‘Minions’ spinoff of the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise, I’ll admit this is one of the weaker entries. I liked the Hollywood setting since I’m a movie guy, but overall I feel the film was pulling away too much from just letting the Minions be what they are. I didn’t mind the introduction of some new Minions and this film had a pretty full cast of actors lending their talents to various characters, including Trey Parker, Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeff Bridges, Zoey Deutch, Phil LaMarr, Bobby Moynihnan, and a little cameo from George Lucas. I’m sure I’ll watch this movie again at some point since I have a toddler who likes the Minions, but I’d just as soon revisit pretty much any of the other films.

High: The Minions were doing Minion stuff. I could’ve used more of that and it wasn’t quite as entertaining as it has been previously, but those little dudes are still pretty funny. And Rider likes them and enjoyed the movie so that definitely counts for something in my books.

Low: There were too many things going on. These movies do have a lot happening, they’re not calm movies. But they should be easier to follow. The Dort storyline was maybe unnecessary and even though it was only 90 minutes, I think 10-15 minutes could’ve been knocked off.
