Good Fortune
Review: A 2025 comedy fantasy movie that was the directorial debut of Aziz Ansari, who also wrote, produced, and starred this movie was an absolute blast. It was really funny and had great performances from Ansari and co-stars Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Keanu Reeves, & Sandra Oh. Stacked ensemble. Ansari’s character, Arj, is a troubled man who meets an angel, Gabriel (Reeves). Gabriel lets Arj switch places with his boss, Jeff (Rogen), to show him money doesn’t solve all his problems. When Arj realized money actually does solve most of his problems, he refuses to switch back, much to the dismay of Gabriel & Jeff. The movie feels like a blend of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life,’ ‘Freaky Friday,’ & a peak 2000s R-rated comedy, resulting in a blast of an original movie. I’ll admit that Aziz Ansari is a comedian that I often forget about until he’s right in front of my face again, but he’s legitimately hilarious.
High: One of my hottest takes in the movie world is that I’m not a fan of Keanu Reeves. I think he’s great as John Wick, but otherwise I usually don’t enjoy his performances. So let me just say. He was utterly hilarious in this movie. His little monologue in the breakroom about taxes, chicken nuggets, & dogs was really funny. And his delivery through most of the film was spot on. Seth Rogen & Aziz Ansari were of course hilarious, and Reeves kept up with (and sometimes surpassed) them comedically. Reeves & Rogen had a lot of comical interactions and honestly the three of them together was absolute insanity in the best way. So fun to see Keanu blend in with all these comedic legends. And every time they talked about Denny’s I chuckled. Because Denny’s.
Low: That Keanu Reeves absolutely demolished his knee on set. Hate to see it. Also there were parts that showed the legitimate struggles of real life, so that’s bleak. But at least it had a solid ending that had Arj showing the pros of a mundane life.
