Fountain of Youth
Review: A new action adventure film that doubles as a heist comedy, this 2025 Apple TV+ film is a solid low stakes watch. It clearly takes inspiration from films we’re all familiar with, with a lot of that seemingly coming from the Indiana Jones franchise. Following John Krasinski’s Luke who reunites with his estranged sister, Charlotte (Natalie Portman) as they search for the titular myth. Other members of the cast include Domhnall Gleeson, Eiza González, Arian Moayed, Laz Alonso, Carmen Ejogo, & even a small appearance from Stanley Tucci. This film is certainly nothing to write home about and will probably fall off the face of the planet in a month or so, but it’s not bad. There’s a lot of fun moments, some interesting characters & dynamics, and it sets up just enough lore to keep you intrigued.
High: I often see people online say that XYZ actor is what Ryan Reynolds thinks he is (usually in reference to Ryan Gosling). For those unfamiliar, what the intended meaning usually is is that Reynolds tries very hard, but typically falls flat, at least to some people. To me, that’s what John Krasinski is. He’s conventionally charming, toes the line of family friendly humor, & still has that ‘dad appeal.’ And to me, that is the main thing that makes this film as fun as it is. The sibling dynamic between Krasinski & Portman is also very good.
Low: With inspiration from popular films usually comes predictability. This film fell into some tropes of the genre with no twist being truly shocking, and while that definitely makes it lost some luster, the film still works. If you’re looking for a popcorn watch that you can have some fun with, fire up Apple TV and hit play on this Guy Ritchie flick.
