Drop

Review: A solid date night movie that I got to enjoy with my wife, this film had a very interesting premise. If you’re unfamiliar this 2025 follows Violet (Meghann Fahy of ‘The White Lotus’ & ‘The Perfect Couple’), a woman who goes on a first date that takes an unexpected turn. She starts to receive drops on her phone from an anonymous person telling her she needs to kill her date, Henry (Brandon Sklenar of ‘It Ends with Us’ & ‘1923’) or they will have her son killed. The film takes on a ‘whodunnit’ style introducing us to several characters who could potentially be the antagonist. The antagonist is seemingly all knowing, being acutely aware of Violet’s next move. Fahy played the role very well, using her facial expressions and body language to really sell the sense of a woman on the edge. Sklenar was very charming as the romantic interest & the two had solid chemistry.

High: I’m not the kind of cynical person that doesn’t enjoy a movie because of its color grading. In fact, I very rarely notice subdued colors in films, but I did notice the very bright and vibrant colors this film brought. The film was very visually appealing overall and used camera angles you typically wouldn’t get on the bigscreen with many POV shots, really interesting close ups on characters, and setting the camera at different heights which all really added to my viewing experience.

Low: I mean the film was super cheesy. Fahy & Sklenar both give respectable performances, but overall the acting is a tad stale. There are just many things that unfold that contribute to the cheesiness, but some people really enjoy that stuff, so if that’s you, no offense. I personally did find some enjoyment in it myself & thought the film was overall very fun (and even heart racing at certain points).
