Top 10 Movies That Would Be Better with Muppets
Yea I know, that’s a crazy title. This is something my wife and I have discusses many times due to posts we’ve seen on TikTok and I really think Disney can capitalize on The Muppets IP by just remaking other films with Muppets. Well these are 10 movies that I think would be better with Muppets.
Knives Out- Okay I’m cheating on the very first one. Because I don’t think they should remake the existing ‘Knives Out’ movies, but rather have a new entry where Benoit Blanc (still human) is solving a murder where all the other characters are Muppets. And what would make it even better would be Blanc never acknowledging the fact that he’s the only human. The only real question is which Muppet died and whodunnit?
Mamma Mia!- The other one I feel the strongest about would be this. I don’t think they should make Mamma Mia! 3, but they should instead do a remake with Muppets. I have to credit this idea to TikTok, but the cast would go something like this. Sabrina Carpenter plays the role of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried in the original movie) with Miss Piggy playing Sophie’s mother Donna (Meryl Streep). The three potential fathers would be: Sam (Pierce Brosnan) played by Kermit, Harry (Colin Firth) played by Gonzo, & Bill (Stellan Skarsgård) played by Fozzie.
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory- Whimsy goes perfectly with Muppets. And few things are more whimsical than Willy Wonka. Originally I was thinking Kermit as Willy Wonka, but I’d instead go with Kermit in a smaller role as Mr. Bucket. I’d stick with the existing Wonka, Mr. Timothée Chalamet, because I think it’s important to always get that one human in there. Then I’d go Robin the Frog as Charlie, Waldorf as Grandpa Joe (Statler would be Charlie’s other bed ridden grandpa), Miss Piggy as Veruca Salt, Janice as Violet Beauregarde, Scooter as Mike Teevee, & Fozzie as Augustus Gloop.
The Princess Bride- Another one that just makes sense. You would obviously have Kermit & Piggy as Westley & Princess Buttercup. Then I’d go Pepe the King Prawn as Inigo Montoya, Sweetums as Fezzik, & Rizzo the Rat as Vizzini. I’d put Statler & Waldorf as Count Rugen, Fozzie Bear as Prince Humperdink, & some random human actor as Miracle Max.
Star Wars- I feel like this stuff really just writes itself. I’m just talking ‘A New Hope’ here, so the cast would be: Fozzie as Luke Skywalker, Kermit as Han Solo, Miss Piggy as Leia, Animal as Chewbacca, Sam Eagle as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Bunsen as C-3PO, Beeker as R2-D2, Statler & Waldorf as Grand Moff Tarkin, & Darth Vader as Darth Vader. Plus what a great way to honor Jim Henson’s contributions to Star Wars. If you made it to a second film, Yoda would just be Yoda.
The Avengers- Obviously Nick Fury would be the human, and if Samuel L. Jackson can do it, then do that. Then the 6 Avengers would be Kermit, Fozzie, Animal, Piggy, Gonzo, & Link Hogthrob as Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, & Thor. Then Rizzo the Rat would be Loki.
Ghostbusters- I feel like I’m really on a roll here. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) would obviously be Kermit because Bill Murray & Kermit are the same thing. Then Bunsen would be Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), Fozzie would be Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Rowlf would be Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) with Miss Piggy, Janice, & Gonzo playing Dana Barrett, Janine Melnitz, & Louis Tully (Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts, & Rick Moranis), respectively. Walter Peck (William Atherton) would be the human character)
Pride and Prejudice- Few things make more sense than Kermit & Piggy as Mr. Darcy & Elizabeth. Enough said.
The Great Gatsby- This one is a little funnier because of the adult nature of the source material. But Kermit & Piggy would once again lead as Gatsby & Daisy. And while I’m not sure who I’d cast the other prominent characters like Tom Buchanan and the Wilsons as, Gonzo would obviously be Nick.
The Lord of the Rings- Finishing out our list is the high fantasy epic adventure that is Lord of the Rings. I think I’d have Bilbo be the human character? Or maybe Galadriel? Or Elrond actually is probably the best pick. But the rest of the cast would be filled out with Gonzo as Frodo, Fozzie as Samwise, Scooter as Merry, Rowlf as Pippen, Animal as Gimli, Rizzo as Legolas, The Swedish Chef (who has been under utilized on this list so far) as Boromir, Kermit as Aragorn (duh), Piggy as Arwen, Sam Eagle as Gandalf, Statler & Waldorf as Saruman, & Pepe as Gollum. I know I’ve used a lot of the main characters with a lot of secondary characters going unmentioned, but I feel like the main characters usually play the main parts, so I’m sticking with it.
